What should you look for in a real estate agent?

It’s important to know, because this decision can mean the difference between a smooth transition to your new home and a home that languishes on the market even though you’ve tried everything. Selecting a REALTOR®  also ensures a high level of training, ethics and professionalism. Here are some questions you’ll want to ask a prospective real estate agent:

Do you offer personal services?  When I call, will I talk to you or your assistant?

A good agent will be there for you from listing to closing. While we have assistants, we will always work directly together with you.

How will you market my home?

Look for an agent that uses a variety of ways to market your home, including the Internet. Many people like you are looking for information on the Internet. Make sure your agent puts your advertising where your buyers will see it. You’ll find our homes advertised in a host of newspapers, magazines, and Internet web sites that are designed for homebuyers.

Do you have a good relationship with other agents?

This is a “hard to ask but important to know” question. A good relationship with other agents means more potential buyers for your home. An agent is more likely to show a home listed by someone they know and trust. Also, agents often discuss homes that are going on the market, which is why they sometimes sell very quickly. Professional affiliations are often a good indicator of how involved an agent is in the profession.

How will you determine the asking price for my home?

Be wary of the person who can suggest an asking price without looking closely at your home and researching other activity in your neighborhood. This information is essential in order to determine the right price. If your price is too high, your property will not sell. If it is too low, you loose money. It’s critical that your house be listed at the right price the day your home goes on the market.

What are your credentials?

Look for a real estate agent that has continued to learn about marketing homes and maintains membership in professional organizations. A REALTOR® will have the latest knowledge and skills needed to sell your home. We are members of the most well-respected organizations in this Industry.
